FAQ

Questions couples ask before they start

Straight answers about what Pragma is, what it isn't, privacy, pricing, and safety.

Is AI couples therapy a replacement for a licensed therapist?

No. Pragma is an AI relationship coach informed by established therapeutic methods — it does not diagnose, treat, or replace a licensed clinician. It's designed for the everyday work of a relationship: communication, reconnection, and recurring conflict. Use it as daily practice between or before professional therapy. If you're facing abuse, a mental-health crisis, or thoughts of harm, Pragma will direct you to trained humans and local hotlines.

Can an app really help my relationship?

An app can't do the caring for you, but it can make the right habits consistent — which is where most couples struggle. A better question at the right moment, a nudge to repair instead of withdraw, and a memory of what's working. Relationships change through small repeated actions, and that's exactly what Pragma prompts, every day.

How is AI couples therapy different from a real therapist?

A human therapist diagnoses, holds clinical responsibility, and adapts in ways AI can't. Pragma offers something different and complementary: it's available every night, costs a fraction as much, never double-books, and turns proven frameworks into a daily habit for both partners. It's a practice tool, not a clinician.

What if only one partner wants to do it?

That's common and still valuable. Each partner uses Pragma individually, so you can start solo and invite your partner with a code whenever they're ready. Many couples begin with one person doing the nightly sessions; the other usually joins once they see it's low-pressure.

Is my data private — even from my partner?

Yes. Conversations are encrypted, and your transcripts are never shown to your partner. Pragma's shared memory only surfaces privacy-aware insights you've allowed, never your raw words. You can export or delete your data at any time.

How long until we see a difference?

Most couples notice small shifts in the first one to two weeks — usually in how conversations start and how quickly they recover after friction. Deeper change tracks the weekly exercise program over four to eight weeks.

What methods is Pragma based on?

Pragma's coaching draws on the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Nonviolent Communication (NVC), attachment theory, and positive psychology — the frameworks couples therapists are trained in.

What does it cost and where do I pay?

Seven days free, then $19.99/month, $44.97 every three months ($14.99/mo), or $119.88/year ($9.99/mo). One plan covers both partners. Subscriptions are purchased inside the iOS and Android app.

Does Pragma work in my language?

Pragma is fully localized in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Arabic — including right-to-left layout — across sessions, exercises, and coaching.

Is Pragma safe if we're going through something serious?

Pragma continuously watches for signs of crisis and, when it detects them, surfaces localized resources and urges you to reach a professional. It is not an emergency service. If you or your partner are in danger, contact local emergency services immediately — in the US, call or text 988.
